Get Involved

When you volunteer with AFS, you become part of a very special worldwide community that works toward a more just and peaceful world. AFS provides international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership. AFS was founded more than 53 years ago by volunteer ambulance drivers who had experienced the devastation of World War I and World War II. It was their desire to form an organization that would promote peace through understanding, and make the world a better place for future generations. Today, AFS is supported by more than 8,000 U.S. volunteers, making it one of the largest volunteer-based networks in the world! There are so many ways in which you can help. Hosting a student, nominating a host family or student from your community, making a donation, giving an AFS presentation, or working with other volunteers from your area on special projects, are just a few. Make a real difference in your world. Become an AFS volunteer!
